Two games today had a price cut: Kroll and Star Wars: The Force Unleashed

Let me first openly admit that I’m a Star Wars nerd. No, I’m not ashamed to say it. I grew up on Star Wars. Mind you, I had the action figures and other toys but this was years after the theater release of the movies. I had all the movies on VHS and believe me, we ran those tapes down. I don’t dress up as Artoo on the weekends or anything, I just enjoy the franchise. So when this game came out, the Force wasn’t with me and I spent my hard earned cash. And I didn’t mind…it seemed fun. In some way, drawing on the screen to make “attacks” seemed natural at first. I went about 30 mins in just mucking up my screen with my dirty hands. Then I turned it off and went about my way. From then on, me and Star Wars stopped communicating. I continued downloading other apps and before long, she sat on my number 4 page all alone. Until one day, my friend invited me over to play the Xbox version of the game. In a moment of clarity (I say that, but come to think of it, we were having beers…oops) I remembered I had the game and quickly broke out the phone to show him. He began playing it, and a few minutes later asked, “Is that all you do?”. And then my world collapsed. THAT IS all you do, I said to myself. How could I be so naive?! Feeling cheated, I still have this app on my phone. I guess I’m trying to magically get my money back by believing it’s OK to have on my phone. But it’s not…it’s just another reminder of my compulsive shopping. If ever I do come back to play this game, it will be to beat the few levels it offers for some small, worthless sense of gratification. Not worth it.

Another game I compulsively bought is Kroll. In the game Kroll, you scroll, like a troll to a hole for a bowel of some scrumptious chicken. Where in the HELL did that come from?!!? Anyways, in the game you move to the right, battling little scorpions and bigger monster creatures up until you get to an even bigger “boss” at the end of each chapter. Take a moment and look at your thumbs. I bet they look pretty weak. Can you do pushups using only your thumbs? I can. Only after playing this stupid game for the first 3 chapters!!! OK, the game isn’t exactly “stupid”. The graphics are wonderful, the soundtrack is decent and overall you can tell A LOT went into this app. My only complaint is that it seems you spend your whole time hitting buttons as enemy, upon enemy just keeps coming at you. If you like button smashing games, this game is perfect. I don’t care much for smashing buttons (can you really use the word “buttons” while talking about the iPhone?). I enjoyed the graphics and the whole “look” of this game, but I didn’t like the game itself. Looking back, I think I (and everyone else) bought this game because it was shown during one of Apple’s conferences. How many of you just bought Band because you saw the guy demonstrate it during a conference? I know I did. Sucka. All in all, this game looks great but not worth the price cut. If I were you I would wait even longer…$2.99 would be about right in my book.
